Player wins Rs 44 Crore on second-ever ticket purchase

April the 3rd was an amazing day for Arun Kumar Vatakke Koroth as he won the jackpot prize on the Big Ticket Series 250 draw. His winning ticket 261031 landed him the amazing amount of 20 million dirhams, which is approximately Rs 44.7 crore. Even more astounding is the fact that this was only the second time that Koroth has ever bought a Big Ticket raffle ticket!
Originally from Bengaluru, Koroth thought the phone call from the raffle organisers was a practical joke. He said of his win, “After receiving the call from Big Ticket, I assumed it was fake, a prank, probably. I disconnected the line and blocked that number. After a while, I received a call from a different number.”
Thankfully, Koroth answered the next call, which would change his life forever. He is currently in hospital undergoing a knee operation, but he intends to fulfill a lifelong dream of opening his own business back in India when he is discharged.
“I could not believe that I had won the first prize. I am still in disbelief. I bought this ticket through the ‘buy two get one free' option. The ticket I won was the third one. I have a dream. I will try to achieve the same.”
Koroth wasn’t the only fortunate Indian national in the draw, as Suresh Mathan, now a Bahrain resident, took the second prize of 100,000 dirhams (about Rs 2,237,837) with ticket number 018462
